Tomatis was one of the first to investigate the auditory environment of the foetus. This page summarises various research that has been undertaken by Tomatis and his successors in regards to sound and the unborn child.

In 1989, an article by Tim Gilmor was published which explained how the Tomatis method assists in the development of listening, language and communication skills pre- and post-natally.
